I am a clinical psychologist on the research faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

My research program focuses on developing and enhancing interventions targeting substance-use disorders as well as integrating qualitative and quantitative methods to more comprehensively investigate individual-level causes and correlates of initiation, maintenance and change in substance-use behaviors.

My publications to date focus on the efficacy of client-centered, harm reduction and motivational enhancement interventions; tailored smoking cessation treatments; linguistic and motivational correlates of substance use; and theory-based modeling of smoking and drinking trajectories.

My teaching and consulting experiences include seminars, professional workshops, formal lecture courses, formal and informal mentorship (including dissertation/thesis advising), distance learning programs, and web-based consulting forums. I have taught formal coursework in Research Design and Methods, Statistical Methods (e.g., Generalized Linear Modeling, Longitudinal and Panel Data Analyses, Mixed Modeling), and Introduction to Clinical Psychology.
